Coach McBurney is currently serving on the Executive Board of the AHSACHOF. Tim McBurney started teaching and coaching at Tempe High School from 1970 to 2001. McBurney coached football (4A State Champions in 1996), wrestling, and track (State Runners-up in 1987) for 20 years. Tim moved on to be the head football coach at the new Chandler school Basha. The Bears earned a 5A playoff spot every year with a semi-final appearance in 2006. Coach McBurney served as the football chairman for the Arizona Coaches Association from 1994-99. He coached the South All-Stars in 1997. Tim was a cofounder of the Arizona Football Coaches Association in 2001 and served as its president until 2005. McBurney went to Coolidge for 1 year and returned to Tempe as an assistant for the final 3 years of his 45 total years in coaching. Coach McBurney was inducted into the National High School Coaches Hall of Fame for his career efforts in 2019.
