After playing baseball at Arizona State University and graduating from Northern Arizona University Art Griiffith began a long and storied tenure as the head baseball coach at Winslow High School. He is working on his 51st consecutive year as the head baseball coach and was an assistant one year prior. Artie was the Arizona state- runner-up in his first season. At last count, Coach Griffith's teams had won over 750 games and lost less than 460 games. The Bulldogs, however, have been in the playoffs almost every one of those 50 seasons with 22 region titles, 8 quarter finals, and 6 semi-final appearances. Griffith was named the region Coach of the Year on 17 occasions. Coach Griffith has served as an Arizona Baseball Committee chairman for years, coached 3 Arizona Baseball All-Star Games, served as the President of the National Baseball Coaches Association in 2012-2013, and coached several elite youth teams over may summers. He was Coach of the 2006 Pan Am Games Youth Baseball Champions. Griffith was inducted into the Arizona Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame in 1995, and he was inducted into the National Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2019. Artie is also a member of the Arizona Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame and the Arizona/New Mexico Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame. The 3A East Region has created a Sportmanship Award with Coach Griffith's name on it--to be given yearly to the team exhibiting the best athletic behavior. Many Wiinslow Bulldogs have gone on to play college baseball, some went on to professional baseball, and countless young men have played for this great example to all student athletes and other coaches for the past half century. Coach Griffith was inducted into the National High School Coaches Hall of Fame in 2024.
