Argie Rhymes is one of the few Arizona prep basketball coaches with 600+ victories Only 4 coaches have reached that total (Sam Duane, Gary Ernst, and Dick McConnell--all Hall of Famers) are the others. Argie was the head coach at Phoenix Union until they closed their doors in 1982. He moved over to Phoenix Union's Carl Hayden High School and would remain there until 2008 after 30 total years of coaching. Rhymes coached his Falcons to two Class 4A State Championships (1986-1987), and to two Class 5A State Championships (1993-1997). Argie's son, nephew, and some of their offspring all continue to keep the legacy of the Rhymes family in Carl Hayden basketball intact. Carl Hayden't gymnasium now bears the Rhymes name.
