Craig Anderson was born and raised in Phoenix. Craig attended Phoenix Union West and Glendale High Schools. He went on to Palo Verde Jr. College, and Fresno State where he played football and got his BA in education. Craig came back to ASU for his Master's degree. Craig's first coaching job was at Paradise Valley High School in 1960. At PVHS he taught Industrial Arts and coached football, basketball, and track. In 1965 he started the wrestling program. In 1979 he moved to the new Shadow Mountain High School when it opened. Anderson was coach of the year 5 times and National Coach of the Year in 1986. He was inducted into the Arizona High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1991. He has also been inducted into the Arizona Wrestling Hall of Fame, the National Coaches Hall of Fame, Shadow Mountain Hall of Fame, Interscholastic Athletic Administrator AD of the Year, and has been awarded the Lifetime Service to Wrestiling Award in 2007. He served as the Treasurer to the Executive Board for the Arizona Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame for years. Coach Anderson passed away in Phoenix at his home on March 25, 2017.
