Charlie Esquivel was an outstanding football coach. Charlie Esquivel was an outstanding golf coach. The Hall of Fame Committee chose to recognize him in both sports. Coach Esquivel's Joseph City Wildcats won the 1979 State 1A golf championship without a home golf course. Esquivel moved on to Holbrook to coach golf towards the end of his career. In football, Esquivel's Blue Ridge Yellowjackets were the State Runners-Up in 2A in 1975. Coach Esquivel's Wildcats at Joseph City were undefeated (11-0) State Champions in 1A in 1978. Charlie coached in the ACA All Star football game, and his son was also a player in that game.
