Coach Dan Mannix made his mark coaching the Sunnyslope Vikings in the 4A conference. Mannix's Vikes were the State Class 4A Champions in 2002 and 2009. The Arizona Republic chose Coach Mannix as the large schools Coach of the Year in 2002. Coach Dan's boys were also the State Runners-Up in 2001 and 2010. The gymnasium at Sunnyslope now bears the Mannix name. The National High School Coaches Association inducted Coach Mannix into the National Coaches Hall of Fame in 2019.
