Danny Reid retired in 1996 after serving as head track coach at Payson High School for 13 years and Mayer High School for 5 years. He was the assistant coach 4 years prior. He recorded 68 wins with a winning percentage of 67%. Coach Reid's thin clads won 4 State Class 3A State Titles, 3 State-Runners-Up, and 8 Region Titles. Coach Reid was named the Arizona Coaches Association Track Coach of the Year in 1990 and the Region Eight Track Coach of the Year by the National High School Coaches Association. Coach was the president of the Arizona Track Coaches Association in 1995 and 1996, and served on the board of directors another 4 occasions. Coach Reid still "gives back" in retirement as he works the 3A State Track Meet and mentors both coaches and athletes whenever the opportunity arises.
