Coach Ed Anderson led the Scottsdale Coronado Dons to the Class 5A State Championship in football with an exciting victory over Hall of Fame coach Earl Clupper and the South Mountain Rebels 17-12 in 1976. Coach Anderson started his career with the Chandler Wolves in the mid 1950's and moved to Coronado in 1961. Anderson was name the Arizona Republic High School Football Coach of the Year in 1976 and 1977. Ed coached the Arizona Coach's Association All Star Football game in 1973. To sum up his career, in addition to the 1976 State Title, his teams won 6 City Championships, 5 League Championships, and 2 Division Championships while amassing a 101-59-4 overall record. The football field at Coronad now bears the Anderson name.
