Herman began his storied wrestling head coaching career at Safford High School in the Fall of 1999. Highlights of his 21 years at Safford include an 83% winning percentage, 7 state championships, 3 state runners-up, and 15 regional championships. He was named National Coach of the Year in 2007 by the National High School Athletic Coaches' Association. He was Arizona State Coach of the Year 7 times and Region Coach of the Year an amazing 15 times. Herman's wrestlers have garnered 39 individual state championships, 22 individual runners-up, and 126 individual region titles. He has coached 16 high school All-Americans, 1 NCAA Division 1 All-American, 2 NAIA National Champions, and 1 NJCAA All-American. Herman served as the NHSACA national wrestling chairman from 2014-2017 and on the USA Wrestling national team's staff for 10 years. Herman and his Dad, Herman Sr., become one of the three father/son duos inducted into the Arizona High School Coaches Hall of Fame.
