Sport: Girls Basketball

Karen Self has been the head girls' basketball coach at Seton Catholic Prep for 31 years and running.  Coach Self's teams have won 83% of their games over those years.  The Sentinels have won a remarkable 15 Arizona State Girls' Basketball Titles during Coach Self's continuing reign.  Not only have they won 15 titles, but they were the Arizona State Runners-Up 4 more times (17 appearances in the Title game in 31 years) and were the region champs 30 consecutive years. Coach Self's 797 wins are second all time--and only 34 behind the top spot. The Arizona Republic named her the Arizona Girls' Basketball Coach of the Year twice, and also once by the Phoenix Suns (the Spirit of Cotton Fitzsimmons Award).  Karen has been named the Region Coach of the Year 3 times and the East Valley Coach of the Year 4 times.  Coach Self was the All-Star Head Coach in 1999.  Coach Self has continued to give back by serving on the Arizona Interscholastic Association's girls basketball advisory committee, and she is also a key archivist for all-girls basketball in Arizona. Coach Self is now on the Executive Board of the Arizona High School Coaches Hall of Fame.
