Jerry Conner has led his teams to over 500 wins in boy's basketball during his career. Shadow Mountain High School has named its gym after him. Conner opened the program at Shadow Mountain in 1974. The Matadors handed him the 1996 4A State Basketball title with High School All-American Mike Bibby as his point guard. The Matadors were the State Runner-Up in 1995. Coach Conner has been named the Basketball Coach of the Year 3 times during his tenure. Later in his career, Coach Conner opted to move to ;Horizon High School to lead a 5A Division I program--but another school in the same Paradise Valley School District. The gymnasium at Show Mountain now bears the Conner name.
