Jerry Dawson is a baseball coach's baseball coach. His record is one many aspire to equal, if possible. Jerry was the head baseball coach at Scottsdale Chaparral for 37 years when he stepped down in 2010. Coach Dawson leaves behind a state leading 773 victories against only 301 defeats. Among those 773 wins are eight 5A State Baseball Championships and two Runners-Up. Three of Dawson's players have gone all the way to the major leagues; New York Mets Ike Davis, Chicago White Sox Paul Konerko, and Kansas City Royals Brian Bannister. Jerry's meticulous grooming of his field is legendary, and his adoption of all grass on the foul lines for better bunting surfaces is unique to his program. The National High School Athletic Coaches Association selected Jerry as their National Coach of the Year in 2007. Coach Dawson was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame in 2015. The Chapparal baseball field now bears the Dawson name.
