Joe Kenrick coached baseball at Wickenburg High School over 30 years as part of a 40 year career at the school. In addition to baseball, Kenrick coached basketball and football for almost 10 years. The Wickenburg Wranglers won two Arizona State Titles (1970 and 1980) under Kenrick along with 6 region titles for a 58% winning percentage. Coach Kenrick was the Division Coach of the Year awarded by the Arizona Republic in 1980. He was the 3A Region West Coach of the Year 4 times. Joe was the 3A All Star baseball coach for the Arizona Coaches Association in 1977 and 1989. The Arizona Coaches honored Joe by dedicating their All Star games to him in 1980 and 2009. The baseball field at the old Wickenburg High School was named after Kenrick and the new school complex (1996) also bears his name. Kenrick's 1983 team was featured on the major network television show "Thats Incredible" and coach was featured in an article in Reader's Digest (1988) titled "The Man Who Wouldn't Quit". Coach Kenrick did all these things while he and his beloved wife Cary raised 7 children with boundless love. Joe passed away on March 19, 2024 in Wickenburg, just a month shy of his 90th birthday.
