John McGlumphy

John McGlumphy is often remembered as the "Father of Rural School Wrestling". He taught and coached at Benson High School from 1958 until 1989. His 1971 Bobcats were the Class 2A State Champions. His 1962 and 1963 teams were the Arizona State Runners-Up. He coached 22 individual state champions. Coach McGlumphy is credited with helping several rural schools in the southeastern rural areas of Arizona to begin wrestling programs. John was honored as the ACA 1995 Wrestling Decicatee at the All Star Matches. Coach McGlumphy was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2011 posthumously. Coach McGlumphy passed in April of 2012.
