Mike Dyer is another of our coaches with "native" attached to his life. Mike was raised in Arizona and graduated from Ray High School where he lettered in all 4 of the major sports (1960-64). Mike received his Bachelor's degree from Arizona State University and his Master's from the University of Arizona. He started his teaching/coaching career at Mayer, but settled early at Marana. He coached football and baseball in the beginning at Marana, but he took over the girl's basketball program in 1977. He retired after 26 years in 2003 with 400 wins and only 151 losses. His Lady Tigers won 12 league championships and 9 regional championships. Coach Dyer was active on the Arizona Coaches Association Executive Board for over 35 years. Mike Dyer is also a member of the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame (2005), the National Coaches Association Hall of Fame (2004), and he was the Arizona Republic Coach of the Year in 1981. Mike has served as a regional director for the National High School Athletic Coaches of Association. Coach Dyer served in the military and earned 3 Purple Heart medals in Viet Nam.
