Rollin T. Gridley was a charter member of the Arizona Coaches Hall of Fame. Coach Gridley's Tucson Badgers were the State Champions (all classes) in 1934, and the Runners-Up in 1933 and '35. Gridley also was a great football coach. His Badgers once set a state record (at that time) by winning 32 consecutive games. Tucson won 5 mythical (before the AIA playoff system) State 5A Championships in football under Gridley in the 1930's. Coach Gridley had the priviledge of coaching astronaut Frank Borman during his prep days in Tucson. Coach Gridley finished his career as the principal of Catalina High School and retired in 1969. Gridley Middle School in the Tucson District is named in his honor. Rollin Gridley was inducted into the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. The football stadium at Tucson Magnet High School now bears the Gridley name.
