Coach Hoyt coached football in Arizona for 36 of his 57 years in education. He also coached football for 9 years in Idaho. Rich's teams won state titles in 1985 and '86 in Snowflake, Arizona. He coached state runners-up in Winslow in 1994, and Williams in 1970 (asst). His Idaho teams won a title and two runners-up (asst). Rich was an executive board member of the Arizona Coaches Association in the early nineties and he was the ACA President in 1993. Rich was the AZFCA All Star Game Dedicatee in 2008. Rich coached in the ACA All Star Football games in 1985 and 1986. Coach Hoyt is currently serving on the Executive Board of the Hall of Fame and has completed the web site for the posterity of its members. Rich and fellow board member Bill Gahn moved the Hall of Fame public display from the Arizona Coliseum to the Desert Diamond Arena in 2017. Coach Hoyt was selected by his peers in the Arizona Coaches Hall of Fame to be inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame in the summer of 2016.
