Roy began his high school coaching career in football and baseball at Paradise Valley High School in 1972. He was named head baseball coach in 1976. He remained in that position until 2014, interrupted only by a one year stint as assistant coach at Phoenix College in 1982. He retired from coaching briefly in 2014, but was lured back to the diamond in 2016 to be the head coach at Pinnacle High School, where, in 2017, they were the state runner-up. As a head coach, Roy is one of the few Arizona high school baseball coaches who have amassed over 700 wins. He has a winning percentage is 65% and his teams have been to three Final Fours and have won five Region titles. He was honored as State Coach of the Year by the Arizona Baseball Coaches’ Association in 1991, inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2003 and named Region or other COTY seven times. Roy also coached in the high school all-star game four times and the academic all-star game four times. He founded the PV Baseball Summer Youth Camp in 1978 that, over the years, served thousands of young aspiring athletes. In 2015, Paradise Valley High retired his jersey, number 23.
