Bob Schuster was a charter member of the Arizona Coaches Hall of Fame in 1984. Coach Schuster was one of the most successful prep track coaches in the state of Arizona from the late 1950's to the late 1980's. Coach graduated from the University of Missouri and taught his first few years in that state. He came to Arizona to Miami High School and later moved to South Mountain. After a long career, Coach Schuster capped his success with the Class 5A State Title at Phoenix Maryvale in 1986. Schuster had a string of 5A State Titles at Phoenix South Mountain High School where his Rebels were the best in 1958, 1967, 1974, 1975, and 1976. His 1970 and 1971 teams were the State Runners-Up. Schuster's Rebels were also third at the State Meet in 1957, 1959, 1960, and 1963. Robert was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame in 2003. Coach Schuster passed away on August 2, 2014.
