Royce Youree was a charter member of the Arizona Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Coach Youree was a three year starter in basketball at Arizona State University from 1955-1958. He was the first Sun Devil to score over 1,000 career points. Youree sank two free throws with no time left to defeat Arizona by 2 points to earn ASU the Border Conference title in 1958. Following college, Youree played 3 years of professional baseball. He started his coaching career in 1964 at Maryvale and soon moved to East High School. Coach Youree's East teams won State Championships in 1971,73,75, 80, and 81. They were the State Runner-Up in 1974. Coach Youree completed his career coaching a Mesa Community College and finished there with a record of 126-37. Royce was selected to the ASU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995, the PAC 10 Hall of Honor in 2009, and he coached the men's 20 and under National Team to a perfect 8-0 record in the 1979 World Championships. Coach Youree was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame in 2012. Youree passed away in the Fall of 2024 in Phoenix at the age of 88. He was the last surviving member of the 32 original Hall of Fame members from the 1984 inductions.
