The Duane family has led Tempe Union and Corona del Sol High Schools to decades of excellence in Arizona prep basketball history. Father and son have led young men in the Tempe District to court excellence for almost 50 years. Sam Duane Sr. had a remarkable career leading the Tempe Buffalos to 2 Class 4A State Championships back to back in 1980 and 1981. Coach Duane moved to the new school at Corona and matched his title output with 2 more Class 5A State Titles in 1989 and 1994. In his 40 year career Sam Duane also led his teams to 7 more State-Runners Up finishes, with the first way back in 1966--and the last in 2006! Coach Duane's son, Sammy Jr. kept the legacy alive until his retirement this past spring (2015) with 4 consecutive 5A State Titles at Corona (2012-2015).
