Arbia Jones

Arbia was head coach at Maryvale High School from 1981 through 2004, a total of 23 years.  He was an assistant in the same program 7 years prior.  Coach Jones posted a winning record of 60% with 147 dual meet wins, two state titles, three state runners-up, and ten regional championships.  Coach was honored as the Arizona Coaches Association state track coach of the year in 1983, 1986, and 1992.  Arbia was named the 5A Phoenix/metro coach of the year on several occasions.  Coach Jones was the "relay coach" for the Great Southwest Meet of Champions in Phoenix (1992, 1993, and 2000).  He is widely respected and recognized as an advocate for inner-city youth and remains an active volunteer in the Valley of the Sun track events. Coach Jones also was an assistant football coach during Maryvale's glory days in the 80's and 90s for 18 years (32 total years).  Funeral services were held for Coach Jones after his passing in late November 2020.
