Shelley Dinges began her coaching career in Hutchinson, Kansas at Trinity High School in 1998. She coached middle school girls’ basketball and helped her team to win the Heart of America Championship in 2000. Coach Dinges coached the varsity boys’ and girls’ tennis teams at Trinity and several of her players qualified for the state tournament. Coach also coached recreation basketball and soccer for the Hutchison recreation department.
Coach Dinges moved to Arizona in 2002 to take a job at Notre Dame Preparatory High School. Dinges has coached tennis at Notre Dame since 2003 and coached girls’ golf from 2004 to 2020. Shelley’s teams at NDP won 9 AIA State Championships (Tennis 2007-11, 2017; and Golf in 2008 and 2014). Her players won 8 individual state titles in tennis and 3 in golf.
At Notre Dame she was also a basketball and soccer coach and she coordinated athletic summer camps in golf, tennis, and basketball. She was an assistant coach on the 2009 NDP Girls Soccer State Championship. Coach Dinges has been honored as the AIA Coach of the Year on 8 occasions. She was named the USTA Central Arizona Tennis Coach of the Year in 2016. ESPN magazine recognized her 2009 golf team after they won the state championship by 100 strokes.
Coach Dinges has given back to her sport(s) by serving on the golf and tennis advisory committees. Coach became the AIA tournament director for the golf championships in 2020 after she stepped down from coaching that sport.
Shelley is currently still coaching boys’ tennis at Saguaro High School. Recently she began coaching badminton at Saguaro while she is still teaching at Mohave Middle School. Coach Dinges accepts many requests to coach or assist with other sports and focuses on helping promote girls sports to this day.
Coach earned her Bachelor’s degree at Regis University in Denver, CO while participating in basketball, tennis, and golf at the Division II level.
